It’s time for this year’s first patch committee sale, this Wednesday lunch (as usual, just outside of META) 🤩 Seems that another year of students have gotten a patch for themselves too, might even be so that it’s gonna be there… 🤔

But except for that, the committee is starting to do more things, which is why we’re having a meeting tomorrow during lunch. 📅 If you 🫵 are interested in designing merch 👕, overall related things eller or patches 🪡, trying our new embroidery machine ⚙️, helping with the traditional overall-events 😎, or helping with the sewing circle, or just see how the committee works, you’re welcome to swing by tomorrow! 🤩

On Saturday, January 18, the International Committee 🌍 will be hosting a medieval-themed Royal Gasque! 🫅 The King of META is inviting you in his castle to enjoy a delicious feast in honour of his kingdom. The dinner is between 18h and 22h, with an afterparty open to everyone.

For only 120 SEK (no alcohol) or 160 SEK (2 alcoholic drinks and a Swedish punsch), you will be offered an appetizing three-course meal 🍽️, many happenings, a lot of singing, and maybe other surprises 🫣. At the Lynx Hackathon, you will work in teams to create a fully systematic trading strategy based on real market data. Your algorithm will be evaluated in a virtual environment at the end of the event, allowing you to see how your idea would have worked in the real financial market. There will be investment professionals from our research and trading department at your disposal to answer questions and guide you through the process. Each year, the Computer Science Chapter sends out a survey to collect thoughts, feedback, opinions and suggestions from Chapter members regarding the CS Chapter and its organisation. The purpose of the survey is to help us increase our understanding of how our members experience Chapter life and which areas may need to be improved upon.

Since we are interested in all perspectives, we highly encourage you to take the survey even if you feel that you don't have anything specific you want to say!

The survey is anonymous and we estimate that it will take 5-15 minutes to complete, depending on what and how you choose to answer.

Project Dive is a project at Datasektionen, aimed at promoting gender balance in our program by introducing Datasektionen, its members, and opportunities to future university students.

The project will involve visiting various high schools and technical base year classes to showcase the chapter and the program, while also building a public profile for both students and the industry.

In accordance with §4.4 Brådskande ärenden, I exercise the powers of the D-rektoratet to issue a D-rektiv in accordance with §4.9 D-rektiv regarding the life and livelihood of the chapter members.

The D-directive is as follows:

“Do not let your old goals limit your future opportunities.”

Over the past year, the chapter has undergone significant organizational changes. Among other things, we have switched banks and laid the groundwork for a new accounting system, introduced a new organizational structure, and moved to a new communications channel for the chapter. Another important step forward is that we have made it possible to save funds for the future members of the chapter, ensuring that coming generations enjoy the best conditions.

I would like to encourage you to make the most of your time at KTH and get involved in the chapter. Dare to explore new paths and fill your “backpack” with fresh experiences and insights that you will carry with you long after your studies.

I would also like to thank everyone who has been involved in the chapter during 2024. Whether you have been functionaries, project leaders, helped out in committees, or simply shown up at events and shared your enthusiasm—your engagement, large or small, is what helps our chapter grow and remain a place for personal development. Thank you for making Datasektionen what it is!

Finally, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year, and likewise extend those wishes to the chapter for a bright and shining year ahead—I believe this year will be a great one. So make the most of your days, filling them with both necessities and fun, and remember:

Merry almost-Christmas Chapter! As an early Christmas present, KTH has decided to revoke our direct access to the garbage room. From now on, you’ll need to use one of the special cards we got from THS to get in. These cards will be kept in the storage room, in a cardholder with a cerise strap. The code for all the cards is 8320. These cards MUST be returned to META after use and must not be taken anywhere other than the garbage room, META, and the path between them.

We have also been given the responsibility to keep the garbage room and the place where we dispose of glass extra clean during week 8 (February 17–23) and week 18 (April 28–May 4).

Try to keep things tidy as usual so everyone stays happy, and have a Merry Christmas (or any other holiday you celebrate)!
